My 8 year old son is currently in the hospital due to a problem with his airway he's had since birth. Although we have had over 30 surgeries, it has been a long time since we have had to stay the night.
Explaining to a modest 8 year old the reason why he has to pee in the urinal for the nurses to measure it was funny. He thought it was gross and the craziest thing he's ever heard. Thinking as an 8 year old, or any non-medical person, it is pretty nasty. He agreed to do it with some coaxing and the promise that everyone else is doing it too.
This morning he said, serious as a heart attack, "Mom, I have to poop , and I AM NOT pooping in that jug".
Kids say the darndest things :)
